The Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro 12K model revolutionizes digital cinematography with a Super 35 12K (12288 x 6480) sensor and 14 dynamic range steps built into the frame of the award-winning camera. With 80 megapixels per frame, new colorimetry, and the flexibility of the Blackmagic RAW codec, working at 12K resolution is now a reality. The 12K resolution oversampling process delivers the best 8K and 4K images, with subtle skin tones and extraordinary detail worthy of high-end cameras. It is also possible to shoot at 60 f/s in 12K, 110 f/s in 8K and up to 220 f/s in 4K (Super 16). Furthermore, this model features an interchangeable PL mount, built-in neutral density filters, two CFast and SD UHS ‑ II card slots, and a USB ‑ C SuperSpeed expansion port. Plus, it includes DaVinci Resolve Studio for creative control during all post-production phases, from editing and color grading to visual effects.
Unprecedented resolution for digital cinematography
The URSA Mini Pro 12K model delivers such sublime resolution that it far exceeds traditional film industry parameters, offering the benefits of tape shooting with incredible detail, wide dynamic range, and vivid, vivid colors. This camera is perfect for feature films, television series and the IMAX format. It also provides excellent definition around objects that makes it ideal for working with green backgrounds and visual effects, including live compositions and computer graphics. Thanks to the 12K oversampling process, it not only achieves improved definition and color in 8K resolution, but also a more homogeneous appearance, due to the fact that the attenuation of the edges is imperceptible. This new generation of digital cinema technology results in a subtle, pure analog style with the goal of an optimized experience.
Cinematic Super 35 12K sensor
The revolutionary Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro 12K camera sensor offers original resolution of 12288 x 6480 and 80 megapixels per frame. In addition, it provides 14 steps of dynamic range, a native ISO value of 800, and an equal number of red, green, and blue pixels, as well as being optimized for images at different resolutions. In this way, it is possible to shoot in 12K at 60 f/s or use the integrated resizing function in 8K or 4K RAW, at a maximum of 110 f/s, without the need to cut or modify the field view. On the other hand, thanks to the interchangeable camera mount, you will have the opportunity to choose from the widest range of classic and modern lenses, so that you can capture each and every feature and detail with your favorite lenses.
12K filming and editing on portable computers
The URSA Mini Pro 12K sensor and the Blackmagic RAW codec have been designed together to facilitate working dynamics in 12-bit RAW format with 12K resolution. This state-of-the-art format is incredibly efficient, as it provides the opportunity to shoot in that definition and edit material on a portable computer, a feature that no other codec offers. In addition, the high resolution of the sensor makes it possible to reframe the shots in post-production to obtain 8K and 4K versions. It is like multi-camera production with a single unit, and is also ideal for both vertical and horizontal images. Advanced sensor design and Blackmagic RAW format make post-production at any resolution instantly, without the need for rendering, and fully maintaining the sensor's color accuracy.
Capturing images in Blackmagic RAW
Only Blackmagic RAW makes 12-bit, 80 megapixel, and up to 60 f/s cinematic images a reality. The Q0 and Q5 options, along with the new Q1 and Q3, maintain the level of quality, allowing compression to be tailored to match the details of the scene. On the other hand, the constant speed modes 5:1, 8:1, 12:1 and the novel 18:1 provide the best possible image quality in files whose size is consistent. You can record in RAW format on two CFast or UHS-II cards simultaneously, for example 12K or 8K, even at high frame rates. Additionally, Blackmagic RAW saves camera and lens metadata, as well as white balance, digital clapperboard information, and custom conversion tables, to ensure consistency of images during filming on set. and post-production.
Optimized for fast and flexible post-production
When recording in RAW format with 12K resolution, maximum control is preserved in detail, exposure and color during post-production. The oversampling process provides extremely sharp 8K images with well-defined edges. Furthermore, Blackmagic RAW has been designed to streamline post-production in 12K, making it easier to work with traditional files in HD or UHD. This codec has been optimized for multi-core CPU units that run multiple processes simultaneously, streamlining them through the GPU to provide compatibility with platforms like Metal, CUDA, and OpenCL. This means that it is possible at all times to work with the RAW files of the camera without creating others with lower resolution. Images in Blackmagic RAW 12K format feature unprecedented resolution and quality for overlays, composites, and resize, stabilize, and track tasks in both 4K and 8K.
5 generation colorimetry
Blackmagic's fifth generation colorimetry includes a cine curve designed to utilize the maximum color data information from the URSA Mini Pro 12K sensor. This offers improved color response for more attractive skin tones and optimized color rendering with high saturation, such as on neon signs and car taillights in high-contrast scenes. In addition, complex processing of the images in Blackmagic RAW format is performed, preserving the metadata related to the color and dynamic range information captured by the sensor, in order to use them in the post-production stage. On the other hand, this new technology is compatible with previously filmed Blackmagic RAW files, so you can take advantage of the new cinematic curve in previous work.
Full resolution at high frame rates
The URSA Mini Pro 12K model is like several cameras in one, as it allows you to shoot in standard resolutions and frame rates in 4K, 8K and even 12K with an overwhelming level of detail. This unit supports 80 megapixels per frame at 60 f/s in RAW format, meaning you can take perfect pictures and record ideal clips simultaneously, as well as shoot at up to 60 f/s at 12K (17:9, 12288 x 6480). For higher frame rates, the camera can be set to 8192 x 4320 at a maximum of 110 f/s or 8192 x 3408 up to 140 f/s, and you can even reduce the sensor area to the Super 16 format, in order to capture images in 4K DCI (4096 x 2160) at 220 f/s. The options for frame rates and resolutions of this model offer unmatched flexibility for better material rendering, with sharper edges in 8K and 4K, even at lower rates.
High bandwidth during recording
The URSA Mini Pro model offers high bandwidth and three 12K recording options, a resolution almost ten times higher than the UHD definition. The camera includes two CFast and SD UHS ‑ II card slots, as well as a USB ‑ C SuperSpeed expansion port, for direct recording to SATA and NVMe drives. Also, by enabling the RAW recording option on two cards, the camera will save images simultaneously on two CFast drives at a maximum speed of 900MB/s, or on two SD UHS-II cards at 500MB/s. On the other hand, the USB-C SuperSpeed expansion port on the back allows recording to flash memory drives at speeds of up to 900MB/s, thus offering a third storage option. In this way, you can choose your favorite to capture images in 12K at 60 f/s or in 8K at 110 f/s.
