FEATURES

A true luminous objective that provides a new dimension of visual experience.

When taking photographs of starry skies or other celestial scenes at night, or of the coast with a wide perspective, a large diameter lens is a strong ally, since it allows you to capture a moving subject by adjusting the shutter speed without depending on the ISO sensitivity With its full 35mm coverage, 14mm focal length for an ultra-wide viewing angle, F1.8 brightness, the SIGMA 14mm F1.8 DG HSM | Art is the true ultra-wide-angle luminous lens for which so many photographers have been waiting for. Although some available zoom lenses already cover 14mm, the large diameter and its F1.8 luminosity is a unique advantage. Going beyond its speed, this objective can capture a swarm of fireflies with crystal clear clarity, a beautiful bokeh effect, and excellent control of the lines produced by light sources.

The Art line provides a high level of artistic expression

SIGMA is organizing all its interchangeable objectives in three product lines: Contemporary, Art, and Sports, each with a distinctive concept. Designed focusing on providing sophisticated optical performance and great expressive power, our Art line goals offer a high-level artistic expression. Offering amazing performance that meets the highest standards, they are perfect for landscapes, portraits, still lifes, close-ups and casual snapshots. They are made for the type of photography that unleashes the inner artist. A great ally in all genres of photography, the objectives of the SIGMA Art line stand out both in the studio for formal and outdoor works for impressive architectural shots, starry skies and many other scenes.

The seventh full-frame fixed focal lens objective to join the Art line

The Art line was launched in 2012 with the SIGMA 35mm F1.4 DG HSM | Art as the first objective. Since then, the line has reached a wide variety of objectives, and the new SIGMA 14mm F1.8 DG HSM | Art is the seventh fixed focal lens of the line for cameras with full-frame sensors. Now even more strongly, the Art line sets a new standard for fixed targets in the era of megapixels.

Ultra wide angle 14mm and brightness F1.8: a new dimension in visual experience

A mode of expression that was unattainable — until now.

Taking advantage of its extreme viewing angle and the dramatic perspective that this creates, a wide-angle lens can approach a subject while at the same time taking a vast background - an example of photography that goes beyond normal human vision.

The SIGMA 14mm F1.8 DG HSM | Art combines the extreme depth of field created from an ultra-wide viewing angle with extremely low depth of field due to its large F1.8 aperture. The result is a strongly defined subject on a vast unfocused background with a beautiful bokeh effect. It is an impressive mode of photographic expression that until now has simply not existed.

Minimized chromatic aberrations

Three FLD elements ("F" Low Dispersion) and four SLD elements (Super Low Dispersion) help minimize transverse chromatic aberration, which tends to be noticeable in shots with wide-angle lenses. The result is excellent image quality from the center of the image to the edges.

With a large diameter aspherical element

The SIGMA 12-24mmF4 DG HSM | Art was the first SIGMA objective with an aspherical element of diameter φ80mm. Based on the experience derived from this success, the new objective has an aspherical lens of ⌀80mm high precision glass as its front element. This technology has made possible the F1.8 specification at 14mm, the first of its kind.

Characteristic bokeh effect

Even at an ultra-large viewing angle of 14 mm, the F1.8 aperture makes a reduced depth of field possible with the subject standing out against a bokeh background. This unique mode of expression can only occur with a goal of great openness like this.

Exclusive low dispersion glass

The degree to which the light is refracted by the glass depends on the wavelength of the light. This fact makes the different colors of light focus on slightly different points. The result is chromatic aberration, the color strip that is particularly noticeable in telephoto lenses. Most of the chromatic aberration can be eliminated by combining a convex element of high refractivity with a concave element of low refraction. However, residual chromatic aberration known as "secondary spectrum" may remain. To minimize this secondary spectrum, which can be a serious problem in conventional objectives, SIGMA objectives offer up to three types of exclusive low dispersion glass that offer superior performance: ELD (Extraordinary Low Dispersion), SLD (Special Low Dispersion) and FLD ("F" Low Dispersion). In particular, FLD elements offer ultra-low dispersion in combination with high transmittance and abnormal fluorite dispersion characteristics. The meticulous deployment of these exclusive types of low dispersion crystal and the optimization of energy distribution provides SIGMA objectives with superlative image reproduction without diminishing due to residual chromatic aberration.

Designed to minimize glare and stray lights.

From the beginning of the design process, SIGMA measured the flashes and the ghost images to establish an optical design resistant to strong incident light sources such as the backlight. In the prototyping stage, SIGMA used not only simulations, but real photographic experiments to evaluate reflections and stray lights under multiple criteria, identify the causes of these issues in a wide range of situations and take measures to mitigate them. In addition, SIGMA's super multilayer coating helps reduce sparkles and brightness even further and provides sharp, high-contrast images, even in backlit conditions.

Fast autofocus photography

An ultra wide angle lens that gives the photographer satisfactory control

A large HSM, AF with manual refocusing, and all the latest manufacturing and design technologies help provide a new visual expericnai.

HSM engine a soft focus at low speeds

The large hypersonic motor (HSM) provides ample torque to the focus group for high speed, ensuring exceptional performance even at low speeds. Together with the optimized AF algorithm, this function offers the ability to shoot with a fast autofocus.

Fast AF with manual focus control

The Full-time manual focus function allows the lens to switch to manual focus simply by rotating the focus ring.

Note: The use of full-time manual focus may vary depending on the type of mount.

Frame with dust and splash resistant construction

The area of the target most vulnerable to dust and other particles is the mount, the rubber seal * helps protect it. In addition, the front lens has a water and oil repellent coating that helps the lens perform better in complicated situations.

* Except the SIGMA mount

Circular diaphragm

The circular 9-blade diaphragm creates an attractive blur in the unfocused areas of the image.

High precision metal mount.

The metal mount combines high precision with a robust construction. Its treated surfaces and improved resistance contribute to exceptional durability of the lens.

Lens compatible with Mount Converter MC-11. You can also use the SIGMA USB DOCK to make the relevant settings and customizations.
